Why is it the first couple of days back at work always drag? It's been so difficult to get out of a nice warm bed and make my way to eight hours of tedium. Plus the fact that I was ill on the last two days before Christmas basically means that I need to make up hours for which I have have already been paid for. How depressing is that?

Or maybe it's the fact that your Christmas decorations look a tad gaudy after the fact - I know some people who took them down on new years day, whereas until today, our uber-trendy fiber optic tree flickered in the background and the Christmas wreath keeping me awake in the a scraping against the front door with the storms and winds that have been plaguing us on the foot of the isle. We eventually took down the decorations in work on Thursday as it distracted us all from the thousand and thousands of student paper records that had to be sorted and alphabetasized. And whilst the fairy lights are still up, the tinsel is in a sorry mass in the corner of the room, taking up dust and looking half shaved as the sellotape had inevitably ripped off the tin in chunks and sections.

I didn't bother to put up and Christmas decorations this year so I had no trouble taking them down.
I didn't bother for two reasons.
1. I don't believe in a God, Jesus, Heaven, Hell or the bible anymore. The world is such an awful place now what with wars, famine, sickness, etc., that there can't be a caring God, and
2. It is so commercialised now it has lost it's true meaning. It's about making pots of money now.
Sorry, but that's what modern life has done for me. Destroyed nearly everything I believed in.

The first day back is always a pain. I was back on Wed 27th.

We skipped decorating this year too, and since we both ended up with "holiday colds" I'm just as glad...

Wendy - No need to apologise - I agree that they've managed to commercialise Christmas to take away any kinda of meaning of it. For me however, the theology degree still kicks in and I still like to believe in the innocence of this time of year and I was so pleased to spend it quietly with the family. Plus Talkative Sis's rug rats made it for us. They were just so excited. It's so true that children make it and that lego can make them so so quiet.

We had holiday colds in this house as well, however I found the cunning use of a bottle of wine whilst soaking in a steaming bath helps! ;) But then after relaxing for a little while, going back to work was so painful. Am back into the swing of things now however, the pain of that first day remains. Why oh why does time have to drag like that??
